Use the Directory Like a Pro

Situation: You live in the Midwest and have had shows at UU and church concert series there - your experiences, the quality and size of your audiences, and your earnings have been good. You don't have much experience touring in the Northeast, but you believe that similar venues there might work well. You're planning over a year out, so want to test for interest at Northeast UU and church series first. If you can secure a booking or two, they can be your anchor gigs and you can seek a full tour of the region.

Use the Directory to solicit interest: You want to find all the UU and church concert series in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Connecticut and use the Directory booking contact info to find out where there is interest.

Go to the Directory and follow these steps:

• Click on Add condition group. Then click on the + sign and Add condition. In the three boxes presented, choose Also... | Contains | UU

• Then click on the + sign and Add condition. In the three boxes presented, choose Also... | Contains | Church

• Click on Add condition group. Then click on the + sign and Add condition. In the three boxes presented, choose ST | Is | NY (for New York).

• Then click on the + sign and Add condition. In the three boxes presented, choose ST | Is | PA (for Pennsylvania).

• Then click on the + sign and Add condition. In the three boxes presented, choose ST | Is | MA (Massachusetts).

• Then click on the + sign and Add condition. In the three boxes presented, choose ST | Is | CT (for Connecticut).

The Filter insert will look like this:

Note that the entire condition is a place to play as specified in Also... in the first group "and" is in one of the four states in the second group. Within the first condition group, Also... contains either UU "or" Church. Within the second condition group, the state is NY "or" PA "or" MA "or" CT.

The result is that you have 37 UU or Church concert series in the four-state region that you can make inquiries of for anchor dates.

Live @ Armes Series

Marathon Center for the Performing Arts is a multi-venue complex in Findlay, Ohio, which is between Toledo and Columbus. Their main theater has 960 seats; another is Armes Event Hall which has a capacity of 180 seated at tables for concerts. The latter is the site of their Live @ Armes Series, which is one concert a month from September to May. Genres include blues, bluegrass, singer/songwriter, Americana, folk and country.
